Director | Producer

Ian Thompson is executive producer and director on Breaking Character. His filmography includes an impressive array of film and television productions. Most recently, he was a producer/director on the 13-part series Wild Archaeology, which aired on APTN and FNX. He executive produced the documentary Pushing The Line: Art Without Reservations for APTN and BRAVO! He also executive produced the documentary Small Places, Small Homes and directed the award-winning documentary Fundamental Freedoms, both for OMNI Television.

A professor in film and television at Sheridan College (specializing in producing, business and production) Ian has written, directed and produced a number of dramatic films including an adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s The Boor. Featuring Gemini Award winner Colm Feore, the drama aired on Global TV and YLE 2 Finnish Broadcasting Corporation and was nominated for a Golden Sheaf award for Best Film at the Yorkton Festival. Ian also co- wrote, directed and produced the award-winning Three Lives of Kate, which was narrated by Golden Globe winner Sandra Oh and screened at such festivals as Valladolid in Spain and Sprockets Toronto International Film Festival for Children.

In addition, Ian is a certified Divemaster and an avid adventure filmmaker having shot and directed a number of works in Gjoa Haven and King William Island, Nunavut, focusing on Inuit Indigenous knowledge and polar bears.
